Summer Best Practice Breakfast-The Power of Email Marketing

Join us for our new season of Best Practice Breakfasts! Like last year, these breakfasts will be held quarterly and feature a speaker addressing a "best practice" on a topic of interest to nonprofits. Our first breakfast will be hosted by Anissa Starnes from Constant Contact. She will be presenting on "The Power of Email Marketing”. Come learn how to get your message "heard" in a world of increasing email communications, discover how email marketing works and obtain useful tips, email marketing strategies and techniques customized for nonprofits! The 2 hour seminar will provide you with:
• An understanding of what email marketing is and why and how it works;
• Components of an effective email marketing campaign;
• How email marketing can meet the needs of your organization;
• Case studies of successful email marketing campaigns;
• Ideas on how you can use e-marketing to engage your donors, board, volunteers and those that you serve;
• Top 10 Best Practices you need to be doing to make email marketing successful.
All information provided can be applied regardless of the system or service you are using for email marketing.
The breakfast will last from 8:00 am to 10:30 am. The event is free, but there is a $10 change for those who would like to purchase breakfast. (Supporting Partner organizations recieve breakfast for free.) If you are unsure whether your organization is a Supporting Partner, please see the list under "Join/Give Now."

Meeting the Collaboration Challenge: Developing Strategic Alliances Among Nonprofits and Businesses

This session is being offered to local nonprofits through the generosity of the Junior League of Winston-Salem, one of HandsOn NWNC's earliest Supporting Partners. Come learn about the importance of collaborating successfully with business, especially in these tough economic times. The session will be led by Vicki Clark, a noted speaker, consultant and trainer.
Vicki is a member of the Peter F. Drucker Foundation's training team, a Senior Governance Consultant for BoardSource, and the Corporation for National and Community Service's VISTA training collaboration. She has devoted the past 25 years of her life to assisting nonprofit organizations and to building capacity in volunteer, membership based organizations, state governments, and congregations.
For 11 years, Vicki served in a variety of positions with the Points of Light Foundation, one of the predeccessing organizations of HandsOn's current national network.
We're very excited that the Junior League is offering the nonprofits in our network this chance to learn more about collaboration from such a high-caliber speaker. Don't miss out on this exciting training and networking opportunity!

WFU's Institute for Public Engagement Nonprofit Essentials Program-Nonprofit Governance class

A practical look at nonprofit governance, including organizational lifecycles and best practices. Topics include the role of the board, building an effective board, the relationship and roles of the board and staff, and how to monitor and evaluate the Executive Director.
Class will be taught by Steve Virgil, Director of the Institute for Public Engagement. He is an Associate Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the School of Law’s Community Law and Business Clinic, where Wake Forest clinical students offer legal services to non-profit organizations and entrepreneurs who create new businesses in low-wealth areas in Forsyth County. For the past year Steve has served on the Faculty Public Engagement Advisory Board and has become a familiar face in the local community. Before joining the faculty in 2008, Steve directed a similar law clinic at Creighton University School of Law; practiced law with the Urban Development Office of Cleveland Legal Aid in Ohio and the Kutak Rock law firm in Omaha; and clerked for the Honorable George W. White, Chief Judge, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio. He is the founder and General Counsel of the Great Plains Environmental Law Center and a former National Association for Public Interest Law Equal Justice Fellow with the Nebraska Appleseed The class will begin at 12:00 pm and end at 4:30 pm. The cost for the class includes a networking lunch.
The NEW Nonprofit Essentials Program will be taught by Wake Forest University staff and faculty, and will be located on WFU's campus. Individuals can register to take single classes or all nine classes and receive a significant discount. This is a great option for organizations that have several employees who could benefit from taking different courses.

NEW! HandsOn NWNC Announces Helping Hands Scholarship Program! This new program, made possible by a generous grant from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, offers partial scholarships to nonprofit staff and board members in Forsyth, Davidson, Davie, Surry and Yadkin Counties who wish to attend classes offered by Duke University's Certificate in Nonprofit Management program (see link below) as a way to increase their competency in areas critical to the daily operation of their organization. This program reflects the role HandsOn NWNC believes education plays in increasing the capacity of nonprofit organizations in our region.
